Interested in taking up flying as a new hobby? Fancy an enhanced gliding experience?

With our Introductory Glider Lessons you’ll receive a full briefing on aircraft controls and their effects from one of our experienced instructors. Once up in the air, you’ll be offered the chance to handle the controls, and take the glider through some basic manoeuvres under supervision.

You’ll receive Two premium aerotows (to 3,000ft or half a mile!), taking you soaring above the Yorkshire countryside. Each flight will last approximately 20 minutes.

Should you wish to build on what you’ve learned on the day, you’ll also receive 3 month membership of York Gliding Centre, to return and fly at member rates, plus a log book and progress card that document your first steps as a pilot!

Please note:

  • Gliding is a good weather dependant activity. We cannot guarantee the weather conditions will be suitable for flying on the day you book your experience, we will rearrange if the weather conditions are not suitable.
  • Due to cockpit limitations of most gliders, if you are over 6ft 3in tall, or over 16 stone (102kg) in weight, then our gliders are not suitable for you.
  • If you are buying a glider experience as a gift, please provide the intended recipient’s name in the ‘Additional Information’ box at checkout. This will assist us in finding their details when they call to book a slot.
  • The two flights are to be used by the same person on the day

Availability

Dates and times vary based on availability at the centre so please call to confirm availability on your chosen date.

We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

Please allow approximately 2 hours for the whole experience.
How it Works

Once you have received a confirmation email, we will send your voucher via email for you to print. Simply call the office on 01904 738694 to book your Flight Experience.

Any multi-flight purchases must be used by the same person on the same day. You will be given consecutive flights based on the amount purchased. If you would like to purchase vouchers for a larger group, please phone our office for more details.
Restrictions

Gliding has specific weight and height restrictions; if you are over 6ft 3in tall, or over 16 stone (102kg) in weight, please give us a call to discuss your options.
